"A sleeping beauty" |
When we came to the Charente Maritime in early 2004 we had in mind the property that
we wanted to buy. The following few weeks we visited a lot of properties with
the idea of turning the right property into a family home with 3 gites to work
as a business. We stumbled across this wonderful 200 year old farmhouse and
barns as we clocked up the miles, after the first visit we new that this was the
one. It had been left unoccupied for 54 years so it was in a very original state,
little did we know as to its rich history over the years; Part of the roof
was demolished in 1943 during a second world war air attack, we also discovered
that it was used to press tonnes of grapes for use in the Cognac trade. Our reward for the many hours of work that we have had to put in is to welcome guests from all over and let people escape to our hideaway... Enjoy! |
