Local Interest
Set in a small hamlet, La Pommeraie is the ideal place to escape and indulge yourselves into the French way of life.
Our nearest Bar/Restaurant is a 10 minute walk away or 2 minutes by car. A village shop and post office is also found in the same village.
A boulanger (Baker) stops opposite almost every day for you to buy your fresh french baguette.
Horse riding, fishing and microlite flights can be found within a 10 minute radius.
| 10 Minutes drive brings you to St Jean d'Angely, a lovely typical market town that has a full range of supermarkets, restaraunts and almost every shop you would expect to find, or you may just prefer to relax on one of the many open-air cafe terraces. Its market days are every Wednesday and Saturdays giving you the chance to buy fresh fruit and vegetables or the catch of the day for your evening meal. Between rows of poplars and water meadows, the river Boutonne winds lazily around the town, its towpaths now used for leisurely walks and its waters for angling and canoeing. Ask at the town's canoe club if you're thinking of a river trip. |

| 20 Minutes away is the beautiful village of St Savinien, it is in the heart of the area known as the Saintonge, which only seems to have been "discovered" by the British in the last ten years. The pretty Charente river, which flows through it, is ideal for coarse fishing and the area generally, with its gentle hills, is good for cycling, especially as there is a huge network of lanes and tracks through fields, woods and by the river, little used by cars. | ![]() |

| 20 Minutes further south is the beautiful historic city of Saintes, also sitting proudly on the river Cherente its foundations go back to the Roman Empire and it still retains some impressive remains from that period. Today you can visit its Amphitheatre as well as two beautiful Romanesque pilgrim churches and an attractive centre of narrow lanes and medieval houses. |
